Treasurer: The end of the fiscal year was March 31, 2011. Income was down because there was no show at Perham. Expenses were also down. The cannon has not been completed, and hence not paid for. There were savings in all categories, especially food expenses. The last is due to poor attendance at events, so it is not really a good thing. Overall, the net deficit was less than expected.
The Vice President reported on recruitment. We should get business cards and trifold flyers. We will want the cards and perhaps the trifolds for Convergence.
Nothing unusual.
Johndevous: The Staff will need to arrange transportation of Clann gear to the event.
Mini-muster: Sarah will be sending out a request for teachers.
Tactical: Nothing new.
Thunder Bay: Nothing new.
None
Some members still have not paid their dues for the current year. The Treasurer will be contacting them.
There was some discussion about guests at Johndevous. The proposal was that non-members may attend if they pay the non-member fee. They will also receive a discount on membership if they wish to join the organization. This was moved, seconded, and passed.

The Dance Guild gathers weekly from 7PM-9PM to learn and practice historic Scottish country dances.
Our usual site, the Lake Hiawatha Neighborhood Center in Minneapolis, closes early during the summer. We plan to resume Wednesday dance there this fall.
Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church, 2300 N Hamline Ave. in Roseville.
It is at the northeast corner of Highway 36 and Hamline Avenue (Hamline is between Snelling and Lexington). The church is actually encircled by the highway entrance ramp.

Editor's Note: This article originally appeared in LiveJournal and is being republished here almost unchanged. All members who use Gaffneyis equipment are responsible for the care and maintenance of it and the knowledge of how to do so should be generally available.
I was confronted with this problem at Charles City in 2007. I had read about this but never actually done it before. Eventually one the more experienced members came by and showed me how to do it his way. I watched carefully, and am here recording what I saw. I have amplified this with additional comments where appropriate.
My intent here is to describe
I am writing this as reference for other members who may find themselves in a similar position. We need to have this kind of basic camp knowledge widely available so that we are not completely dependent on the the availability of a few experts.
There is a wooden box with supplies for musket maintenance. In it you will find eight dowel sections that screw together to make two long rods that can be used to clean the inside of musket barrels. Take the thick set of these and put them together. You will also find a metal piece with a small eye that screws into one end of the rod, and a bag with small fabric scraps. The basic idea is that you want a long rod to which you can attach a small rag. With this you are going to clean, dry, and oil the inside of the barrel. I suppose you could improvise with a 4 ft., 1/2" diameter dowel, drilling a 3/16" or 1/4" hole through one end perpendicular to the dowel axis.
Put a small twig/touthpick/whatever in the touch hole to close it. Pour some hot soapy water (roughly 1/2 cup) down the musket barrel. Cover the end of the barrel and shake vigorously. Take your rod, put one of the fabric scraps through the eye, and thrust it down the barrel. The scrap will scrub the inside. Turn it around and move up and down several times to wipe the inside. Pull it out. The fabric scrap will be dirty black.
Note: The other rod sections can be assembled and have a couple brushes that can be attached at the end. This might be helpful if the musket is really dirty.
Turn the musket muzzle end down to let the water (really dirty water) drain out. Unblock the touch hole. Since the water was hot it should dry quickly, but just to be sure...Take your rod and put another fabric scrap through the eye. Thrust this down the barrel and rub it about to dry the inside. Extract it.
In the supply box you will find a container with a leather closure, filled with a thick gunky oil. In appearance and consistency it seems like neatsfoot oil or mink oil. Take another fabric scrap, cover it thickly with the oil, and stick it through the eye of the rod. Use this to oil the inside of the barrel with the same procedure as above.
Now take a larger rag. Oil it well. Rub all the exposed exterior surfaces of the musket--metal and wood--thoroughly.
There are various references about cleaning muskets on the web. Mostly they talk about about flintlocks, but what they say about the inside of the barrel also applies to us.
Be sure to contact your staff if you plan on attending a show event. Try to give at least a ten day notice when possible. This allows proper planning for the feeding of our members, and in some cases is required by event organizers to allow entry as a participant.
You can call any of the staff members listed, or send an email to staff at clanntartan.org.

Hello all,
The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.
The column titled status will include the following information.
Tentative- this means that an event organizer or Clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.
Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that the Contracts Administrator has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about whether or not you may be able to attend this event.
Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let the HCF know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.
Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact staff regarding this matter
Thanks,
Your Staff
