We will be electing the following positions: President, Treasurer and Camp Representative. The current treasurer has announced his willingness to run again, the president has not yet decided and the camp rep position is expected to be vacant. Also, the current VP has tendered his resignation because of an expected work transfer out of state. We will hold a special election to fill the remaining one year of his term.
The board positions are for a two year term and next year in Feb 2011, we will be electing the other four offices. If you are interested in running and want more information, consult the manual for the listing of duties and responsibilities for each office and talk to any of the current or former position holders. The board has monthly meetings that last about 1.5 hours. They are currently held on the third Tuesday of the month, but the future schedule will be set by the new board.
Bruce
Treasurer
Dates: Saturday February 13 10am to 5pm and Sunday February 14 12noon to 5pm.
RSVP for both shows to mlkirkpatrick at usiwireless dot com
Featured performers besides us are Ross Sutter, Dick Hensold, Laura MacKenzie, and The GreenMan Band. It's an easy event; no tents, no pikes. People get a hotel room or stay with friends. The show even provides us with hot lunches!
It's a fun event; please let Margaret Kirkpatrick (mlkirkpatrick at usiwireless dot com) know if you are coming.
We will be reenacting Searle's Raid of 1668.
The event hosts are providing the following:
tents for us to stay in
pikes
muskets
powder
cooking gear
We also may have the opportunity to man the guns.
In other words, pretty much all we need to bring is bedrolls and attire. This will be the easiest pack for a long trip we have ever done.
We will be encamped at Fountain of Youth Park, which marks the spot where Ponce de Leon landed in 1512.
We will not know until we get there whether we will be Spanish settlers or English privateers. Either way, if you bring your plaid, it is best to use it as a blanket rather than clothing. There may have been Scottish sailors with Searle, but the kilt is not at all useful aboard ship.
The organizers are keen on having civilian craft portrayals.
Saint Augustine, America's oldest city, was founded in 1565, over forty years before Jamestown.
The fighting will occur in the streets of the modern city, almost exactly where it took place 342 years ago.
The result of this privateer raid was that the Spaniards replaced the wooden fortifications with Castllo de San Marcos, the only surviving 17th century fortifications in the US.
Travel options have appeared for several months in the newsletter; depending on how many people go, we could conceivably take a car. The board has authorized $100 per person towards travel expenses.
Those interested in attending this event must contact your Captain no later than February 10th.
Airfare quoted in early November was $356 round trip. Three nights lodging assuming quad occupancy is approx $94 and estimated $25 for shuttle service between Jacksonville and St Augustine brings total to $475 per person for transport and lodging. Trip would last four days and food would be extra.
Train would be $390 plus two nights lodging at $62 plus above shuttle service would total $477 per person. Trip would last seven days and food would be extra. Downside to train, four night would be spent in train lounge cars. A plus to the train is layovers in Washington and Chicago give opportunity for added excursions.
Van would be about $445 per person for transport and four nights lodging. Trip would last six days and assumes eight people to get the van share down. Costs go up if fewer than eight share the cost. Also assumes two nights in the van while driving straight through.
All of the possibilities have some plus and minuses. Food would vary greatly and is not included in any of the proposals. I estimate that food would be from $25 to $50 per person per day.
At its December 15th meeting, the board authorized a reimbursement of $100 per person for each member who makes the trip to help underwrite expenses.

We have a yahoo groups email list for the guild that we use for reminders about the meetings and topical discussions. If you want to be on the email list, request an invitation to join from Bruce at bruceyoder at juno dot com.
Please contact your music chair, me, to express your interest, and to let me know what evenings would work best for you. And if you can host.
I am thinking maybe twice a month, but you can vote on that, too.
I will set it up for the day(s) with the most votes.
And if you have a better name for it than Gaffneyis Glee Club, I am all ears. It does have a nice ring to it, though.

The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.
The column titled status will include the following information.
Tentative- this means that an event organizer or Clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.
Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that the Contracts Administrator has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about whether or not you may be able to attend this event.
Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let Julie know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.
Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact staff regarding this matter
Thanks,
Your Staff
